Tunnel revisited
< << ---- click image to enlarge --- >> >

"Tunnel of light, a deja vu
You are much on my mind tonight
as I slide through the oval tunnel of light
made by my high beams, follow the thread
of radio talk to keep myself alert."
Words were written by Annette Allen, the poem is titled "Good Monsignor" originally published on "Poets against war"

Raw horror, elegant beauty
My companion wondered why brutal violence is common in some countries. This remark triggered my awareness to the fact that this part of Europe has a thin varnish of civilisation for only a few decades now. The 20th century has been the most violent era in human history with millions of casualties. The majority perished in Europe.
Salient detail: the Oude Kerk is also a graveyard. When I enjoyed the exhibition I walked over gravestones, among which the tomb of Saskia van Uilenburgh the wife of Rembrandt.
