Think dutch

The sign states "Do not place bicycles here". So why does she place her bike right there? Start thinking dutch, stay sane and perhaps you'll understand.

This photo was published in Photoblogs Magazine in the Critiques section. I received very usefull comments. I like to credit and thank all the commenters. I was able to apply some comments to the original picture. So here it is: "Tunnel revisited".

"Tunnel of light, a deja vu
You are much on my mind tonight
as I slide through the oval tunnel of light
made by my high beams, follow the thread
of radio talk to keep myself alert."

Words were written by Annette Allen, the poem is titled "Good Monsignor" originally published on "Poets against war"

Raw horror, elegant beauty

World Press Photo. Visited the exhibition in the Oude Kerk in Amsterdam. A photo-journey through 2004, a confrontation with the extremes of humanity and nature, raw horror and elegant beauty.

My companion wondered why brutal violence is common in some countries. This remark triggered my awareness to the fact that this part of Europe has a thin varnish of civilisation for only a few decades now. The 20th century has been the most violent era in human history with millions of casualties. The majority perished in Europe.

Salient detail: the Oude Kerk is also a graveyard. When I enjoyed the exhibition I walked over gravestones, among which the tomb of Saskia van Uilenburgh the wife of Rembrandt.

Shades of deception

not what happens to you
but
what do you do

shades of reality
